Ahobilam shrine guide
Kroda Narasimha lies between Vedadri and Garudadri, about 1 km from the Upper Ahobilam main shrine. It is both a distinct shrine and the practical junction for paths toward Malola and Jwala.
Exact form identity
The main image combines Varaha and Narasimha: a boar face, lion tail and human torso in a standing tribhanga pose, with Bhumi Devi at the left. The cave also houses a separate Lakshmi Narasimha image.
Devotional context
The shrine is known in the source as a Siddha Kshetra and is connected with Sri Vaishnava teaching traditions near a Kalakshepa Mandapa and a small Ramanuja cave.
Narasimha devotion is framed through bhakti, dharma, courage, protection of the vulnerable and right action. No result is promised.
Source-qualified account
Sacred tradition links the combined form with recovery of the Vedas and Bhumi Devi, followed by the movement from fierce energy toward the peaceful Malola form. These accounts are presented as shrine tradition.
Documented and living layers
The main sculpture is stylistically placed in the 9th-10th centuries. A Vijayanagara-period mukha mandapa with stone pillars was built against the natural cave.
Shrine form and setting
The north-facing moolavar stands within a natural cave whose opening is on the east. A built mukha mandapa, Varaha Theertham, the nearby Ramanuja cave and the river-valley setting define the site.
Practical approach
Walk about 1 km from Upper Ahobilam beside the Bhavanasini River. From Kroda, the right-hand steps lead toward Malola and the left-hand route leads toward the much harder Jwala approach.
